Wheatstone's Wave Machine

In the 1840s Charles Wheatstone developed a machine to illustrate the addition of harmonic waves. Koenig produced a version that is listed at 1000 francs ($200) in his 1889 catalogue. Other versions are illustrated on the page on wave addition devices. This one was purchased for Vanderbilt University about 1875 as part of the original apparatus for the new university in Nashville, Tennessee.
