This Celestial Globe at Oberlin College is by Gilman Joslin
(1804-ca.1886). Joslin worked in many fields in addition to making globes:
he was one of the first Americans to make a daguerreotype and was engaged
in shipbuilding.
The celestial globe showed the stars forming the constellations and also the mythical figures associated with them. REFERENCE: D.J. Warner, "Geography of Heaven and Earth -- III", Rittenhouse,
