Valve Mechanisms
The two valve mechanisms below are on display at the University
Museum at the University of Mississippi. At the left is a ball-valve that
is listed at 16 francs (about $3.20) in the 1853 catalogue of Lerebours
et Secretan of Paris. It was probably purchased in the second half of the
1850s by Prof. F.A.P. Barnard, the second Professor of Natural Philosophy
at the University. At the right is a model of a slide valve that is unmarked.
