| The crane model on the left is home-built, and from the
collection at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia.
On the right is a model crane from the University of Mississippi museum collection. It is 52 cm high, and is very likely imported from Europe before the Civil War. If so, it was part of the collection assembled by F. A. P. Barnard, who later became president of Columbia University. Another mechanical model from Mississippi is a pile driver.
