Slated Globe

The slated glove is a useful device for teaching astonomy. Normally they are rather small, but this one that I discovered in the lecture demonstration room at Cornell University was at least two feet in diameter. To give some scale, the floor tiles are the conventional nine-inch squares. The ornate base suggests that it dates from the first part of the twentieth century.
